Learning and teaching at the Institution are underpinned by a set of principles aimed at fostering the development of graduate attributes and informing both course development and interim monitoring and review in accordance with the Course and Subject Policy and Course Development, Review and Approval Procedures. The Learning and Teaching Policy outline these principles to support excellence in learning and teaching practice. This policy should be read in conjunction with the Guidelines for Implementing the Learning and Teaching Principles.

- Policy statement
4.1 Learning at the Institution is Industry-focused, with courses developing contemporary knowledge and skills needed for professional success. This means:
- innovation for courses is supported through active engagement with industry and scholarly practice;
- all subjects have a combination of industry focussed and current content;
- modern ways of learning and teaching and the development of 21st Century graduate skills such as digital literacy; and
- students develop and maintain a portfolio to evidence learning and reflective practice from their first year of study through to graduation.
4.2 Learning at the Institution is Global, with courses exploring international perspectives, intercultural capability and global citizenship. This means:
- intercultural engagement begins at commencement and is embedded in the students’ experience from day one;
- the curriculum incorporates learning activities that develop intercultural awareness, ethical understanding and sustainability perspectives; and
- graduate capabilities such as leadership, communication and intercultural competence are developed, assessed and evidenced across courses.
4.3 Learning at the Institution is Connected, with courses fostering meaningful links between students, staff, industry partners and the wider community. This means:
- learning and teaching activities prioritise active engagement and connection between students’ knowledge skills and industry;
- connections between discipline knowledge, professional skills and real-world application are made explicit in every week topic; and
- physical and digital learning environments are designed to promote collaboration, interaction and connection among students.
4.4 Learning at the Institution is Empowering, with clarity, transparency and support enabling students and staff to understand what success looks like and how it can be achieved. This means:
- every student’s learning journey is supported through mentoring, recognition and access to appropriate academic and support services;
- policies and procedures are clear, transparent and easy to access;
- assessment requirements and standards are explicit, consistent and transparent. Tasks have clear instructions, standards-based grading rubrics, templates and models; and
- students are supported and encouraged to seek timely academic guidance.
- Roles and responsibilities
5.1 The DVC (Learning and Teaching) is the policy owner and is responsible for oversight, scheduled review and reporting on implementation.
5.2 Deans/Associate Deans are responsible for implementation within their academic discipline areas, including ensuring staff have access to appropriate support and development.
5.3 Program Managers are responsible for designing, delivering and reviewing subjects/courses in line with this policy, including assessment clarity and maintenance of current learning materials.
